This Monday was the first debate of the 2016 Presidential Elections between candidates Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump. In the debate, only one minutes and 22 seconds were spent talking about climate change and other environmental issues. Well, basically only Hilary Clinton talked about the topic. In the last 5 presidential elections, the total time the topic has been discussed is 37 minutes and 6 seconds. That is not a lot for such a major issue that is effecting every single person. And considering that is a total of 1500 minutes total of all the years since 2000. The candidates and past candidates have really only talked about reducing emissions, climate change, and cleaning up the environment, so that is pretty vague.

Society is pretty in denial about global warming and climate change. When I try to ring up the topic to my dad, his response is always, "climate's changed before". That is a common myth in society. But climate actually adapts it's climate to how the people. In a time where to past temperatures on Earth and rapidly increased like it is today, both being caused by fast greenhouse gas emissions. Like the end of the Permian, Triassic, and mid-Cambrian eras, there have been mass extinctions, because of ocean acidification, sea level rise, and rapid jumps in temperature.
"Arctic sea ice has recovered", no it is actually retreating. The ice volume reduces every year in September, the end of summer, which takes away a huge chunk of this ice, and the ice isn't recovering too well. From 1980-right now there has been a steep decline in the ice volume.

As the years go on, our Earth continues to have warmer and warmer seasons due to global warming. The arctic sea ice goes through a melting cycle, and reaches it's ice minimum which is around the middle of September. This year, the melting is reaching its second lowest point on record. For the last 35 years there has been a satellite to record daily images of the area. The ice in September has decreased from over 7 million square kilometers in the 70's to about 3.5 million square kilometers in 2012.
An urgent change is needed to protect the arctic ice. In the last 45 years, the arctic ice has basically been cut in half. At this rate, by around 2050 there will be no Arctic ice.

‘Like it’s been nuked’: Millions of bees dead after South Carolina sprays for Zika mosquitoes9/1/2016 On Sunday, August 28th 2016, millions of honey bees native to South Carolina were killed. Without warning to beekeepers, Naled an insecticide used to kill mosquitoes because of the Zika virus, also killed the innocent honey bees of SC. According to ABC 4 News, the plane loaded with Naled flew over 3 times and by the time it left, the bees were all killed.
It upsets me that this had to happen to the poor bees, especially without warning. As it is, honeybees are already endangered, so for 2 million + more to be killed is out of hand. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2016/09/01/like-its-been-nuked-millions-of-bees-dead-after-south-carolina-sprays-for-zika-mosquitoes/?postshare=9431472736380704&tid=ss_tw |
